Listening to the Beautiful Blue Danube, and the overture from Die Fledermaus, makes me want to take up ballroom dancing so I can fulfill my fantasy of waltzing around the Piazza San Marco in Venice... (since you asked)

It's funny that you ask this. I've always found songs about places to be very poignant. Ones that come to mind are James Taylor's "Carolina in my Mind," and Mana's "Mexico."

Do you like alternative rock? I'll always remember being in Seattle visiting a friend who was working during the day and traveling around that city in the rain listening to the cd "August and Everything After." It's very moody music that I found to be good company while alone. That said, in Europe I remain generally "unplugged." I don't want to be cut off from the possibility of new acquaintances!

Here is a favorite mini-mix of mine. The order is extremely important, so if you can, try to follow it.

Non Je Ne Regrette Rien- Edith Piaf
The Air that I Breathe- Simply Red
I Can't Help Myself- Norah Jones
Walk on the Wild Side- Lou Reed
Girl from Ipanema- Getz/Gilberto
Chelsea Hotel #2- Leonard Cohen

For travel, those are fabulous!

How about:

"Roam," B-52's
"Perfect Day," Lou Reed
"The Water is Wide," Karla Barnoff
"Ol' 55," Sarah McLachlan or Tom Waits
"I Drove All Night," Cyndi Lauper
"Vacation," Go-Go's

and for a good laugh:

"Come Sail Away," Eric Cartman
