Inexpensive/recommended accomodations in Paris?

We are two friends in our 20's planning on staying in Paris for 6-7 days in early May. Any suggestions on safe/clean/inexpensive places to stay? Some hostels seem to be more expensive for 2 of us then hotels. Any "must sees" we should add to our list. Thanks!!

Do you have any guidebooks yet? I ask because of so many similar posts. I suggest Let's Go, Rough Guides, Lonely Planet, Rick Steves all would be helpful (try your library if you don't want to buy them).

Secondly type Paris hotel in the [search] box at the top of the screen and it will pull up ALL the old threads with tons of suggestions and discussions.

Asperin, my wife and I stayed in a really ahndly little two star on the edge of the Marais this Christmas and really liked it. It is just four blocks from Notre Dame, one block from Hotel De Ville, a few blocks from the Louvre, and just around the corner from the Pompideu. It is the Andrea Rivoli [email protected] A double was 84 euros. It has a phone booth elevator that was really welcome at the end of a long day of touristing.

Make sure you get a museum pass from at metro station while you are there. It can save you money and save you lots of time because it lets you skip the lines at the musuems.

that is a "handy" little two star. I think as a typist I would make a better plumber.

Venice: The Ostello Santa Fosca is nothing to write home about but it's acceptable in a city where regular hotels are nutsy expensive.

Paris: We stayed at Mr. Bed (Bagnolet) near the end of a Metro line and a good shopping center, Room was tiny but cheap, clean and quiet. Decent breakfast too.

Do you have an approx. budget you are aiming for?

Are you willing to share a bathroom?

Do you want to be central in each city? Or are you willing to stay on the outskirts and use public
transportation for site-seeing?

Try the Hotel Beaunier in the 14th, it is at metro stop Porte d'Orleans. It is a 2 star hotel which is very clean and with staff that is very friendly...Ia gree, in some cheap hotels it will be cheaper for you to share a room than going in some hostels...and generally, it is quieter...The 14th disctrict is really safe...You are not far away from Montparnasse, Saint Germain and Latin Quarter...http://www.h-beaunier.com/
Have a good trip!

Last September I stayed in the Hotel Résidence les Gobelins and enjoyed it.
It's a good 2-star, clean, run by very nice people, the location is good, in a walking distance to a famous market and to the Latin Quarter, a Métro station is very near to the hotel. They have doubles or twins for 63E - 76E.

I've stayed at the Young and Happy hostel in Paris, it was just over 20 euros a night per person, I could not find a cheaper hotel. Very clean facility, great location, and helpful staff.

Have fun!

The MIJE group has 3 hostels located in renovated medieval houses in the lower Marais, a central and beautiful area.

They charge 32E per person per night, including breakfast. I've read very good reviews about these hostels.

You might like to check above youth hostel in Batille area. Two daughters of my friend living in Zurich stayed in a room for 2 persons a weeks ago and paid €19.00 incl.breakfast per person. They were happy about the place. (If you are interested, I could ask for details to my friend). They don't take guests over 25 years old but may be a bit flexible.

We are looking to spend <$100/night for a twin room. We are willing to share a bathroom and do not require a breakfast to be included. We would love to stay in the 6th but I don't know if that is reasonable. Thanks!

Hotel Sunny was given a good write up last year (in terms of value for the money) in Conde Nast Travel mag. www.hotelsunny.com
