Id his a crazy idea for arrival in Venice?
My DH and I will arrive in Venice on the train from Florence in the late afternoon on a Monday. It's our first time in Italy! We are staying at La Calcina and I know we can take the 82 Vaporetto to the Zatterre stop and be just a short, easy walk along the Zaterre to the hotel, but I wondered if it would be crazy to take the number 2 down the grand canal to have this be our first introduction to Venice. I think we could get off at the Accademia stop and on the map, it looks like a straight simple walk along R. Terra Foscarini to the Zattere and our hotel. We'll have 2 rolling suitcases, one 21 inch and one 24 inch. Is the map accurate as to the simplicity of this walk? What do you all think?

If I was arriving at Venice train station with someone who had not been to Venice before, I would take the same route--a perfect magical introduction to Venice. And the walk is indeed that simple.

If you don't mind lugging your suitcases. (How many bridges between the Accademia stop and your hotel?)
Oh, and I think you mean Vaparetto #1, not #2. #1 is the slow one that stops at many places along the Grand Canal.

Either the no.1 or the no.82 will stop at Accademia. The 1 stops at all the stops, and the 82 stops at the major stops. However some of the no. 82's only go as far as Rialto & then you need to change (which invloves going to another landing across a bridge. I'd reccomend getting a number 1 as you'll have luggage. It's a really easy walk from Accademia to La Calcina. Just remember to get on the vaporetto heading in the correct direction. From the station you want one heading from right to left!

Some how I thought the number 1 just went up and down the grand canal, starting and ending at the strain station and St Marc's, but maybe that's the nmber 2? So if we take the number 1 when we get off the train, it won't it only go in one direction? Or does it also make a loop like the 82?
Also, when we get off at Accedemia, will we be on the correct side of the bridge to walk to La Calcina or will we walk over the bridge there?
