Iceland and/or Finland with daughter

I am taking my 25 year old daughter on a trip in August. We wanted to go somewhere and not swelter in the heat. I suggested Iceland and/or Finland. Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Well, I'd always recommend Iceland to everyone (see http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...mp;tid=1278237)
but Finland sounds lovely, too...it was on my "short list" for the summer. Icelandair has pretty low introductory airfares to Helsinki this summer, and you can add on up to seven days in Iceland without any additional airfare: the best of both worlds!

Happy travels

Iceland is wonderful but it depends on how much time you are taking and what you enjoy doing. Thingvellir, the waterfalls, geysers, landscape in general can be breathtaking and quiet. Would you drive the ring road around Iceland? If you are looking for a combination of towns and countryside how about Norway? Great hiking, walking, endless days, but also a variety of cities/towns (Bergen, Trondheim). The weather in both Iceland and Norway can be cool and rainy but either would be an interesting and fun vacation. Sorry, but I don't know Finland at all.

I have been to both Iceland and Finland. Both are quite different experiences. August can already be cool in Finland. When I was there in August and I said I was cold, someone said "you should have come in summer" to which I replied "it is summer" and they said "not in Finland". Iceland was windy and chilly at times in July. Both places are amazing. Have fun wherever you decide to go.

I have been to Iceland in July and Finland in August. My preference would be Iceland. IMO much more to see as far as waterfalls, geysers, etc. Helsinki in Finland was a great city as was Lapland up north but for me Finland was a lot of forests for the scenery. Alot of trees.
