Hydrofoil Naples to Positano
We are visiting Positano for 5 days in late September, coming from Rome. I think we have the Rome Naples leg sorted out by train, but does anyone know of a website ( or any information) on the mysterious hydrofoil service Naples Positano. We want to leave Rome early afternoon and make our way to Positano so we are after timetables and departure points. From all accounts the hydrofoil seems a lot simpler than the hassle of train to Sorrento and bus to Positano

Jeremy

You have only one hydrofoil from Naples to Positano in the afternoon. Departure time is 4:30pm and arrival time is 5:30pm.
So from Rome you have train ES at 1:45pm and arrive at Napoli Mergellina at 3:26pm
From Mergellina train station to Molo Beverello harbour, about 15 minutes by cab.
Have a nice trip.
Vincenzo: I have read contradictory information about the hydrofoil from Naples to Positano: some reports that it leaves from Mergellina, other reports that it leaves from Molo Beverello, others that it leaves from both! Can you clarify? Grazie e arrivederci.

Ciao Vincenzo - Ciao GAC,

EURO 8.00? That's interesting, - that makes it about HALF the price of the Alilauro service from Mergellina, right?!

But Vincenzo, - I read recently that Metro del Mare were having problems running some of their services. Are they reliable, or is there still a problem?

Grazie e ... Forza Roma!
(Ecco - ora lo sapete!)

Ciao
Steve

Two days ago some my friends used it from Naples to Sorrento and, really, no problem.
Yesterday, a big problem for every ship and every hydrofoil in the Bay of Naples: a very strong wind so that no departure from any harbour.
Today is a wonderful sunny day, hot.
Ciao a tutti.

Seek advice on Rome - Positano Tour:

I will be leaving Positano from Rome in this coming late Sept. Can Steve or Vincenzo suggest me what are the quickist ways to get to Positano from Rome? I read from this Forum that there is direct bus from Tibertina station. Alternatively, there is someone suggesting taking train to Naples and then take Hydrofoil to Positano. For hydrofoil (departs Molo Beverello), is it still offered in late sept? For Tibertina bus, what will be the departure time?

thx

Daisy - I'm not sure the hydrofoil from Molo Beverello still runs in late September. Vincenzo che ne dici?

The DIRECT Rome-Positano bus normally runs until the last weekend in September, - leaving Tiburtina station at 07.00a.m., arriving Positano 11.30 approx.
Times can change, so you'd need to check this in Rome.
The service is run by MAROZZI.

The QUICKEST route would probably be door-to-door limo, - or limo from Naples station.

Hope this helps ...

Steve

Wendy: In July, we used Floavio Gioia (www.flaviogioia.com or [email protected])from Positano to Naples. We had had a bad experience trying to connect to hydrofoil on the way over from Naples. We had gotten an up-to-date schedule from Mergellina to Positano from Vincenzo (thank you, again), but apparently the time schedule changed on July 1. We made it to the other dock with 5 minutes to spare, thanks to a kind person who gave us a ride. The costof the limo was $100, and we thought it was worth it to be sure to make our train connection. Be very clear where you want to go; our tickets from Naples to Rome were from Mergellina, and after we were on the way, he insisted that he could only take us to Central. We knew that was not true, but too late we were at his mercy. We had a hard time figuring out how to get to Margellina (by subway, we found out), because we arrived at a time of day when all of the information booths were closed.

Jeremey: Call Carmine Monetti. He is a driver who lives in Sorrento and is excellent. His cell is 011-335-6029158 or 011-338-9462860 or fax him at 011-39-081-8784795. You might want to ask him about taking you on 1/2 or whole day tours, also. He does airport and train station pick-ups also. He has an incredible passion for the whole area. He drove us to a village my grandparents came from and helped us get a lot of information. He's wonderful.

Just checked all the responses. Some great advice thanks! Looking forward to September! My last job is to find a hotel for one night in Rome. Anyone suggest a good central hotel up to about Euro 130?? We arrive midday and will leave for Naples 1.30pm on the train the next day so time will be short to look around the sights!!
Cheers

Jeremy
