Naples to Positano - hydrofoil?

hubby and i on a 2 week trip to italy for our 1st anniversary, everything is planed except how to get to positano

arrive in rome
3 nights in rome
3 nights in florence (via train)
2 nights in venice (via train)
2 nights in tuscany (w/ rental car)
train to naples - then ???
4 nights in positano
1 night in rome

don't want to do the bus route or pay alot for a driver, i am keen on the hydrofoil, but i have no clue when it leaves, how far it is from the naples train station, can you reserve seats on it, etc...

I went to a few ferry websites but alas they are all in italian! help?

You can find FERRY AND HYDROFOIL SCHEDULE at:

http://www.capri.net/salsa/page_id/32/lang_id/2

It seems like you need to go from Naples to Capri, then to Positano.

From the train station you take a taxi to Molo Beverello. Don't let him take you to Mergalina. It's much farther away. The aliscafi from Naples to Positano only runs in the summer months. You didn't mention when you're going. If you have a problem finding a schedule, contact your hotel and they will give you the schedule. They don't take reservations on the aliscafi. If it's off season, you can take an aliscafi from Naples to Sorrento and then a bus to Positano.

e-mail them, it's easier for them to reply with a schedule.

Never take a hydrofoil if you don't have to. An ordinary ferry with open decks is usually much more comfortable.

The timetable for Naples-Positano (direct) hydrofoil services is on:

www.metrodelmare.com

(Click on route MM2)

Journey time is 1 hour
Fare = €10.00

This is the quickest route.

An alternative route is via Salerno, from where there are more frequent services (ferry).

Hope this helps ...

thank you very much!

2 more questions:
can you buy tickets in advance and is it a long taxi ride from the train station to Napoli Beverello (where it appears the hydrofoil departs from)
Thanks soooo very much for all of your help!

just recieved an e-mail from my hotel, apparently the hydrofoil is "currently unavailable" (says the same thing on the website steve gave me), they said they would get back to me in a couple weeks and let me know what's going on.
