How to travel from Rome to Sorrento
I have done few searches online and saw 2 options:
1. Main train to Naples and switch from there to a smaller train
2. take a direct bus
I tried searching for more on direct bus but could not find more info.
Does anyone know what is the best way to go from Rome to SOrrento, time it takes and approx cost that we are talking about !!

You have identified the two most reasonable options. I fyou want to spend more money you can take a train to Naples and then have a car pick you up and take you directly to your hotel in Sorrento. Or take a cab all the way from Rome - but will be a fortune.
The buses run only once or twice (in high season) per day - so it depends on what time of year you are coming.
You could also rent a car - but that really only makes sense in off season and if you will be using the car to go on from Sorrento.

The bus takes about 4 hours, the train about 3 hours.
The bus companies are: Marozzi and Curreri. This information is available from google.
For the train you take it from Rome Termini to Naples Centrale, walk down stairs and take the Circumvesuviana to Sorrento which leaves every 30 minutes during peak times.
