How to get from Naples to Lipari direct in September
We are travelling to Europe in September 2009 and need to get to Lipari from Naples around middle of September - any ideas as ferrys seem to stop running around first week in September?

The year-round service from Napoli to Lipari is run by Siremar (www.siremar.it). The current timetable shows departures from Napoli on Tuesday and Friday evenings.
Much more frequent ferries and hydrofoils run from Milazzo which can be reached by train (though with a bus or taxi from Milazzo station to the port). There are also ferries every night from Napoli to Palermo (www.tirrenia.it and www.snav.it) or Catania (www.tttlines.it).

I tried to do this last year and wasn't able to find a workable ferry solution (too slow, too much money, wrong time). If that turns out to be true for you too ...
You can fly to Catania and take a bus from Catania airport to the port in Milazzo or the port in Messina. Then take the hydrofoil to Lipari. The hydrofoil companies are Siremar and Ustica.
You can take the SAIS or Guintabus bus to Messina (more frequent), and/or go by Giuntabus further on to Milazzo (less frequent).
