How safe is Craiova, Romania?
I decided on a whim to make a train journey from my home base in Sofia, Bulgaria to Craiova as I've never been to Romania.
I wonder if it's safe enough? Are there any sketchy characters on the international train from Vidin to Craiova? Also within the city itself? I plan to spend 2 nights in order to have a whole day sight seeing.
I've read that the Sodia to Vidin train often is delayed but the Romanian one waits for any passengers at Vidin.
Is it possible to walk from the train station to the old town instead of taking a taxi? Also what can be seen in just a one full day? Any ideas of good hotels?

Never mind, I'm sure Craiova itself is safe. I meant mainly the train.
However, I decided to go by car instead, the trains are just too slow so it would be an annoying trip. Craiova is just about 300-ish kms from Sofia. Burgas for example is further away.
It's high time I visit Romania. Maybe one day I could go to Alba Iulia which aside from having such a cool Latin name looks really amazing on photos. Craiova itself looks very nice. Actually its old town is roughly the same size as that of Bratislava, which is a larger city, so I'm glad cities in the interior of Romania were able to preserve quite some of their old towns (other towns like Slatina and especially Giurgiu weren't so lucky and concrete commie flats replaced amazing old buildings right into the city cores). So Craiova is definitely worth the day trip if you're in the area. And Slatina, too if only for the amazing wide Olt river and the bridge over it (almost as wide as the Danube) and the few really amazing old buildings still standing.
