How easy to day trip from Ravello to Positano?

We're thinking of staying in Ravello, but we would like to day trip into Positano, maybe have dinner there and enjoy it at night. We will have a rental car with us. How feasible is this?

No problem if you have a car. Driving time is about 1 hour, via Amalfi.

I think it would be criminal not to !! The only thing I would add is, take a competent and confident driver as the coastal roads can otherwise be terrifying, or get the bus!!

All the towns are close together, so you can easily see Positano and other towns in a day. Another fun way to do this would be to drive down from Ravello to Amalfi, park at the pier in Amalfi, and take the ferry to Positano. You can then shop, eat and sit on the beach. Parking in Positano is expensive and hard to find, esp in summer months. Positano streets are extremely steep and narrow. Many of the best parts are accessible only on foot, so you will end up parking your car and walking; one reason to maybe not use the car.

Not sure how late the ferries run back to Amalfi, that might be an issue if you want to stay late into the evening.

Hi Jun,

A car can be a liability on the AC,mainly because there is little parking.

From Ravello, you can take the bus to Amalfi and on to Positano and let the professional driver negotiate the road for you. This is especially good when returning at night after dinner. Also, you won't have to look for a parking space.

Last bus back to Amalfi is about 10:30 PM.

The problems of driving on the Costiera Amalfitana are much exagerated, your biggest problem will be parking, although in the evenings you should be able to find a spot in Positano.Parking the car all day in Amalfi is virtually impossible,so if you are going to take the boat from Amalfi, just take the SITA bus down from Ravello.
