How do you pronounce "L'Eixample"?

I can never remember what the "X" does in Spanish...or is it Catalan, because of the "L'"? Anyway, how does one pronounce "L'Eixample"?

in Catalán, when "x" stands alone, it is a "ch" but when preceded by an "i" it becomes "sh." So, Eixample is pronounced "eye-SHAM-ple".

Más o menos. . .

it's Catalan for "widening" or extension ("ensanche" in Spanish), because it was an extension of the original city. Laclarie got the pronunciation right, except for the final "e" which sounds like a closed "a" (as in "bar&quot.
