How do you pronounce "L'Eixample"?

I can never remember what the "X" does in Spanish...or is it Catalan, because of the "L'"? Anyway, how does one pronounce "L'Eixample"?

in Catalán, when "x" stands alone, it is a "ch" but when preceded by an "i" it becomes "sh." So, Eixample is pronounced "eye-SHAM-ple".

Más o menos. . .

There are actually ome folks who pronounce it ""Gayxample"..when you go to Barcelona you'll see why.

it's Catalan for "widening" or extension ("ensanche" in Spanish), because it was an extension of the original city. Laclarie got the pronunciation right, except for the final "e" which sounds like a closed "a" (as in "bar").
