I apologize for this belated reply--I just saw this thread. I'm going to forward this to our tech team. I'm not sure why there have been so many internal errors as of late.

Robespierre's explanation is correct about the www.; this was a site-wide clean-up.

If you have any remaining issues, please feel encouraged to drop me a note at [email protected].

Katie H.- Thank you for looking into this as we all love to read, comment and post our own questions without clicking too much to get into the forums! May I ask a few questions?

Where are you located? I know Fodors is a British company.

Do all Editors constantly read threads?

How do you monitor what people say in keeping within normal realm? I have read some threads where I though the person went overboard with comments. That was a while ago and of late, all nice folks.

Thanks!!!

Hi ciaodeb-

Fodor's is actually an American company; we're a division of the book publisher Random House, which is owned by Bertelsmann, a German media company.

Fodor's is based in New York City.

The guide book editors read a fair amount of threads when they can--not to moderate but really just to get a sense of what our readers are interested in and the types of trips people are taking. They do on occassion pop in to share their advice.

The forum moderators pop in on different shifts and generally are keeping an eye out for advertising, spam, and any rude postings. We have more threads here than we can read though---so we're unable to review everything (hence we do miss some postings that some might say are rude.)

Generally, members will shoot us an email at [email protected] if they spot offensive material. This is extremely helpful to us in moderating the forum though we are looking into adding new features on the forums that would make this sort of reporting easier.

All in all, members set the tone for what they'd like the Forums to be like. We try our best to only but in when and where it's appropriate. All in all, the vast majority of travelers that post here are a well-meaning, helpful bunch.

Thanks, Katie. I live near NYC and am in city often. My home is Garden City on LI.

I always thought Fodor's and Frommers were British companies. Was Fodor's always owned by Random House? Maybe the previous owner was from UK?

Just wanted to say "thank you" to Robes. Suddenly my Fodor's address in my favorites wouldn't work today and remembered what you posted Robes. Added the www. and I could immediately connect to Fodors. You are a wealth of information.
