I just happened to see fodors when I was browing my other fave travel page at msnbc.com. I signed up for it this past Memorial Day weekend, and have been hooked ever since. Nothing is going to cheer me up quicker on my bad days other than reading through this page!

I don't remember how, probably one of the websites like Frommer's mentioned Fodor's. But I do know when - once went back all the way to my first post as Faina (lost this nickname) on August 10, 2001.

As I see the word "Frommers" is repeated several times in this thread, just coincidence or those 2 websites are affiliated?

Hi everyone,

I was planning a trip three years ago and thought that I would run to the bookstore later in the day to research per my normal fashion. Then I thought, I wonder if Fodors has a website, jumped on the computer, and the rest is history.

Fodorites have been hugely fundamental is assisting me with the planning of our trips to Hawaii, twice to the Caribbean, many places in the continental US, Mexico, and most recently my second trip to Italy.

I enjoy posting trip reports and assisting others whenever possible. We have literally NEVER been disappointed with the information and advice we have received here.

Happy and safe travels to all, Tiff

About ten years ago I bought the Gold Guide when planning a trip to New Mexico. Printed inside the front cover was a phone no. for what appeared to be a Fodor's Travel Agent service. I rang the number and was put throught to the States. They were prepared and able to book hotels for me whilst I hung on the line. So I mentioned the first hotel , they put me on hold and after a few minutes in which they no doubt rang the hotel , and sorted the price, negotiated commission then came back to me and I okeyed the booking. We then moved on to the next hotel and so on for a whole fortnight.
The phone was a freephone number and the cost of the call which lasted about an hour must have been phenomenal! The whole system worked and all the reservations were in place when we turned up at the various hotels.
Some years later I decided to try this again but this time could only find a website address and here I am! I have never found the phone no. again or indeed anyone else who used it!

I love this website. I found it when planning my first family trip to Italy in 2000 and have been an avid user since. I used it when planning my next trip to London, followed by a magnificient trip to Prague, Vienna, and Paris last year. I did all of my research for that trip on this site including all the pension recommendations. Our next trip is this summer in the USA- to Sante Fe and I used the site for that trip, too. Next summer will be Israel and I have begun my research...I recommend this site to all my friends who are planning trips.

I found the site by accident surfing the web. I was looking for places to stay in Arizona. Somehow I ended up in a chat room about travel. I had never been in a chat room. I booked a room from a recommendation on Fodors and loved the place. I have been on the site on and off now for years.

I actually don't remember! I wasn't reseaching for a trip either. I was taking some time off from work and was surfing the web and I guess somehow stumbled upon Fodors. And I've been hooked since (like right now staying up reading the threads instead of being in bed).

They come and they go, LoveItaly.

I was looking for some very specific train information on getting to Orvieto from FCO without going through Rome. Google sent me here. (Smart Google!) ThinGorjus answered my first post.

I've been hooked ever since, and only hope I've been able to give half as much good advice as I've gotten.

Hi Marilyn, remember the post "what if I die when I travel alone to Europe" or something like that, LOL.
Some posters I cannot forget, even when they drop out.

Marilyn, you are a joy on Fodors, know that for sure!

In February, updated my library card for Ireland research and when it was time to return them I wrote the web address down and checked it out.

Stayed up all night that first time and am hooked. Since then I think I once managed 3 days without peeking. (flu?)

Mr.12 was happy he didn't have to hear about Ireland anymore (that lasted about a week) and now I update him with who said what and so & so wrote this, or what I have "discovered"--glad I took a peek that first time!

I was researching hotels for a first- time trip to France in the winter (Feb)of 1994. At that time, Fodors Forum was a new venture in Fodors travel site and a popular thread was one that had three responses. A kind businessman posted about this little hotel in the 7th Arrondisement, Hotel Muguet and I thought it sounded pretty good. I remembered using my husband's email first, then starting posting under my own name (Maira). Sally Fowler, Wes, Al (Clem from Arizona), and BOB THE NAVIGATOR are the only originals I remembered from back then. Some characters came afterwards and stayed, some left. I still missed Wes, Ed, and Elvira's posts. Some originals are irreplaceable. I've been here for 11 years and 24 countries later still think this is the best travel forum on the Internet.

I was looking for information on the Navigo smart-card passes in Paris. I recently heard that the monthly passes were going to be transfered over to this smart card (I already have one for a yearly pass). I typed in Navigo Carte Orange or something like that at Google and found a forum. Then I saw all the topics so I decided to help people with their transit needs around the France.
