Hotels not responding to emails?

I have been sending hotels emails to inquire about acommodations and follow-up to confirm reservations and they are not responding. Is there something I am missing here? Should it take several weeks for them to respond?

I am having the oppostie experience with the Hotel de France Invalides in Paris. They are amazingly responsive, confirming my reservation, assisting me in finding an opera ticket, and making multiple dinner reservations. For a 2* property, Im really impressed!

If the hotels are in resort areas, it may well take them weeks to respond, because they are closed in the winter and do not keep someone on hand just to answer emails.

And in general, Italians do not feel the same urgency about emails as North Americans do.

Sometimes contacting the hotel (if you know it's open) by fax or, even better, by telephone will get you a faster answer.

Small hotels are often uncomfortable with e-mails. You'll get quicker responses via fax or telephone.

These hotels are in Greece. Some have already sent one email and I just want to confirm the reservation. I would not want to assume that they hare holding the reservation with me saying I want to confirm and fax my CC #.

I've read elsewhere that sometimes faxes don't go through if sent from home machines or through a computer.

I assume you have dialed the access code 011, the country code for Greece, and the area code as given...
