Anyone got any recommendations for a hotel in Sardinia? Hoping to go their on our honeymoon for 2 weeks. Looking for a place that has leisure facilities.

Never been there so just looking for suggestions. Would have a preference for somewhere on the coast though.

The two best are Hotel Cala di Volpe (right on the shore of a hidden bay) and Hotel Romazzino. Both are fantastic properties located in the Costa Smeralda (northern Sardinia). A word of warning though they are both VERY expensive. If your budget stretches then perhaps you might consider 1 week at one of these properties and then one week at another more reasonably priced one. This way you would experience one of Europe's finest hotels and also see another part of the island.

Another good (but also expensive option) is the Forte Village Resort on the southwestern coast. But if you don't like large hotels / resorts this may not be for you.

One final option might be to travel with Mark Warner, a British company that operates inclusive resorts, including watersports. However, make sure you choose one that is not too child friendly and book outside the UK school holiday period (when is your honeymoon?). www.markwarner.co.uk

The hotel Patrizzia on the Costa Esmeralda is another luxury hotel you might consider for your honeymoon. If you are going next summer, be sure to make your reservations as soon as you can. Many Italians return to Sardinia year after year for vacation and have standing reservations at their favorite hotels so it can be difficult to find available rooms in the hotel you want during the summer, especially July and August.

I can warmly recommend HOTEL PALMASERA situated in CALAGONONE, which is along the central-east coast. HEre is their web site! A good 3 star hotel. Good food, beautiful location.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far. Should have mentioned in the original post - we'll be travelling early June.

There are many other fine hotels on Sardinia which do not charge extortionate rates as those mentioned on the Costa Smeralda. Unless you are prepared to spend up to $2000 per day, I would look to more reasonable resort hotels around Porto Conte, Santa Margherita di Pula and Villasimius/Costa Rey. Start by looking at the following properties:

Hotel Flamingo: Santa Margherita di Pula
Hotel Sant'Elmo Beach: Costa Rey
Grand Hotel Chia Laguna: Chia Laguna (south of S. Margherita di Pula)
Hotel Baia di Nora: Nora Beach (near Pula)
Hotel Punta Negra
Hotel Porto Conte
Hotel Il Faro

The last three properties are northwest of Alghero.
