Hotels in San Gimignano or Cortona

Does anyone have any suggestions for hotels or apartments in San Gimignano or Cortona that would be inside the walls of city and near center of town? Also not too costly - probably a 3 star hotel.
Thanks, Sharon

The Hotel San Michele is very nice; it is like staying in a museum. It is a four star and can be expensive but we got a great deal on a suite as we were there in November 2001 when tourism was way down.
We stayed in a B&B that was lovely, very central and owned and run by a friendly Italian family who also own a bar/cafe in the main piazza.
www.sangiroom.com
The building itself is 14th century but it is completely new inside, with very nice bathroom, comfy bed, antique furnishings. Cost in March this year was just under 60 euro, without breakfast.
Kay

Hi Sharon..a few years ago we stayed in an apt. just outside San G. it was great and not too expensive. I think you'd have to stay a minimum of a week though. You would also need a car..it was only 2-3 km from San G. but down a long country road. At night you could see the lights from San. G. go on and twinkle in the distance. A pool was a bonus. We rented thru La Bella Toscana and the apt. we stayed in was Oleandro.

Another suggestion for staying in the center of San Gimigno is the Hotel Leon Bianco, 8 Piazza della Cisterna. It's a charming hotel and I believe it's category is 3*. At night, after the day tourists leave, it's a magical place to be.

We also used La Bella Toscana, and rented a portion of a farmhouse that was within walking distance of San Gimignano. We were very pleased with the selection, and the cooperation & communication from La Bella Toscana.

We stayed at L'Antico Pozzo in San G. It was a beautiful room w/ lovely antiques on the main street (San Mateo). The price was very reasonable.

We stayed at the L Antico Pozzo in October. Our room was the most beautiful room we had on our trip. The hotel was beautiful, well run and a great breakfast.
