I stay at the Astoria on Nikolaistrasse in Schwabing, just off of Leopoldstrasse.

It is close to the Gieselastrasse U-Bahn stop. One of the U-bahn lines, U6 as I recall, goes up to the Nordfriedhof stop of the Lufthansa Bus to the airport. These stations have elevators and escalators, thus making them much more luggage friendly than Paris' Metro. The bus runs every 20 minutes.

Hotel Uhland, Uhland Strasse...located about one block from the Octoberfest Fairgrounds UBahn stop and a 10 minute walk to Sendlinger Tor. Reasonably priced and nice with a great breakfast

Friends and I stayed at the Acanthus in October, 2001. We had three rooms and we all enjoyed our stay there. It is small and intimate with a good breakfast, helpful staff (who speak English) and a good location within easy walking distance of metro, shopping and attractions. As a female I felt very safe on the streets alone. We felt it was a good value.
