hi steve,

have you read Maribel's guide to madrid?

www.maribelsguides.com

her recommendations are very reliable.

I would definitely want air con in Madrid in July.

regards, ann

I agree about both Maribel's guide and A/C, but more importantly, what is your budget and what style of hotel do you like (grand? boutique? modern? simple?) and what kind of neighborhood (residential? quiet? in the middle of things?)

We like centrally located hotels near a point of interest such a the Puerta del Sol or the Gran Via etc. We would like a moderately priced hotel less than 110 Euro/$130. It should have a wireless connection and an elevator and of course A/C. Steve

Well, with that in mind, do a search for my name on here and in TripAdvisor for reviews of the Hotel Preciados. Modern- designed rooms in an old building, a couple of blocks from the Puerta del Sol, and in your price range. My DD and I stayed there for 4 nts last summer and liked it a lot. Great bathroom! Our room overlooked the back street and was very quiet. Free minibar!
