Hotels in Berne?

Greetings,
I will be in Berne for one night this July of a fabulous trip to Wengen and Lucerne.
Did anyone stay at the Belle Epoque? Any other recommendations? We will be there for one day and then catch a flight back to SF.
Thanks.
Evelyn

We stayed at Goldener Schlussel. It's not luxurious at all but good enough. The room faced the rear and it was very quiet. Their restaurant is really good and apparently very popular so make reservations if you want to try it. The location is great, really close to the clock tower and the main street.

We stayed at the Belle Epoque in Oct. 2003 and would highly recommend it. It's small and charming. We had a huge room facing the main street. (Street noise was not a problem.) The owner made a point of introducing himself and offering any assistance, and the rest of the staff was very helpful. Breakfast was a nice array of choices and eggs cooked to order. The bar area is small but charming, decorated in the Belle Epoque style (surprise!).

About the only negative (and a very small one) is the distance from the train station in relation to other (much larger) hotels. We walked back and forth several times during our stay, so it's not a great distance. Just something to mention. Its location just makes it that much closer to the Rose Gardens and the Bern bears!

I think this hotel would be a great last stop in Switzerland.

Jean, the Belle Epoque sounds really nice and the breakfast is excellent. The Goldener Schlussel is pretty basic and so is the breakfast, more a bread, butter, cheese, and jam with coffee spread. The walk from the bear pits over the river to the clock tower area is not that far.

Another vote for the Belle Epoque. Excellent service and food and a pretty room. It is a 15 minute walk from the train station on the main arcaded street. The only negative was when we were there it was very hot in Bern and the hotel has no AC (only a couple of hotels in town have it), but we made do with fans and leaving the window open (we faced the back, not the street).

Had a look at the Belle Epoque's website and surely the rooms are really nicer than the Goldener Schlussel's. They look spacious too. Wish we'd known about this hotel for our visit!

Have a great visit to Berne! I'm one of Berne's fans on this forum, and I hope you can see enough during your stay to make you want to join the fan club.

Not adding anything here except the website for Belle Epoque, for the next person to come along looking for it!
