Hotels in Amsterdam

We will be in Amsterdam the first week of September for a number of days and are looking for suggestions for accomodations in the Museum/Leidseplain area. Last time we stayed at the Park Hotel and it seems to be a bit pricier than 5 years ago. Looking for something around 100-160 euros.

Also after Amsterdam we plan on renting a car and then doing some touring of Holland. We are not sure where we could stay, where parking wouldn't be an issue. We are also not sure if we are going to need to book a couple of different places. We would be going to the Souberg and also to the western part of Holland and also possible to the Maastricht. Any ideas ?

We enjoyed our stay at the Hestia Hotel

http://www.hotels.nl/amsterdam/hestia/

It is on the edge of Vondelpark and 5 minutes walk to the Van Gogh and Rijk museums. Lots of good restaurants nearby and transportation was good. Wireless internet was 5 Euro a day and breakfast was plentiful. The staff was exceptionally nice. Our room had a lovely balconey overlooking their back garden and a view to Vondel park.

And the price was right!

I have stayed at these 2 places in Amsterdam and would recommend both.

Thanks jetsetj, hadn't even thought of a houseboat. We are going to be with another couple, so it may be too crowded!

Just wondering also if someone can suggest a location where we could stay outside AMS that would be easy to get in and out of with a car?

Houseboats are alot of fun.
You will find many for rent in Amsterdam.

If your objective is to see Amsterdam, then stay in city center.
