Hotels for 4 in London Rome or Prague?
Having exhausted US vacation locations over the years, I'm taking my family for the first time to Europe in August, I'm a bit out of my element having never vacationed there before (I've had a few business trips though). We've settled on London, Rome and Prague for 3 or 4 days each (with a tough decision between Rome and Barcelona). Are there any hotels that will accommodate 2 adults and 2 kids (13 and 18)? It doesn't seem to be possible. Any hotel recommendations in 'city centers' near the sights? I've got tons of Hilton points but other than maybe London there doesn't seem to be much in Rome or Prague.

I'd pick Barcelona over Prague any day! Prague is very touristy, and a little tacky. I guess it is very much geared up towards tourists. Our experience of barcelona was entirely different, and we really enjoyed it - especially the excursion we made out to montserrat (very fun trying to make our way around everywhere on public transport!)

As you might have noticed on your business trips, many European hotel rooms are smaller, and few have more than one bed, althought there are SOME triples and quads. If the kids are the same sex, I'd get tham a separate room. We got our 19 year old a single when he traveled with us a number of years ago.

I responded on your other thread but want to remind you of the extreme heat in Italy in August. If you are flying into London then how about throwing in Paris and possibly Germany. Something that is uncomfortable weatherwise and is closer for easier traveling?

Forgot to add that as much as you want to use Hilton points-alot of their properties are in the middle of nowhere in some of the bigger cities. Rome's Hilton is outside of the center and you have to shuttle in everyday which is a pain when traveling.

I used VRBO for an apartment in London for 4 in January 2009 and for an apartment for 4 in Rome in January 2010 and an apartment for 4 in June 2010. All 3 apartments were good and in good locations. Our "must" is always two bathrooms so 4 people can get ready in the mornings more easily. The apartments were a lot less expensive than 2 hotel rooms.

In Prague I stayed at and enjoyed the Bellagio, but it has since been renamed to the Hotel Clement. Search for it on TripAdvisor. Good rates, breakfast was included, and it was centrally located.
In Rome we stayed at the Hotel Andreina. Read all the reviews on TripAdvisor. It's a nice place, close to the train station, but then... it's close to the train station (sometimes a shady neighborhood).
No recent trips to London, sorry.

In Rome, ALBERGO DEL SENATO which is just across from the Pantheon and within walking distance of most major sites, offers a ground floor apartment that will definitely accomodate four people. One of my friends and her family stayed there two years ago; daughter and friends stayed there last year.
You can also look into a quad at HOTEL LANCELOT, which is very close to the Collisseum.
