I'm heading to Croatia this summer, planning to travel from Zagreb to Dubrovnik. Are there any good hotels in the cities and along the coast? Everything I find seems to be very basic apartments.

There are lots of very nice 4 and 5 star hotels along the coast. Just a few of the best are Le Meridien in Split, Lesic Dimitri Palace in Korcula, Radisson Blu in Orasac, Hilton Imperial in Dubrovnik, Dubrovnik Palace, Pucic Palace in Dubrovnik, and Hotel Excelsior in Dubrovnik.

I wolud also add on the list Monte Mulini in Rovinj.

Most of the hotels in Dubrovnik are resort hotels at what I would have found to be an inconvenient distance from the old town. The Hilton is just outside the Pile gate, so close in.
