Hotel suggestions for Lisbon
Can anyone recommend hotels in Lisbon? I'll be there in around Christmas time.
Plan to drive up to Obidos and Sintra area while there too.
Also, what's Lisbon like over Christmas? Fortunately or unfortunately it looks like I'll be spending the night there on Dec. 25th! Assume everything will be closed but hopefully open again on the 26th?

I've spent several Christmases in Lisboa over the years and most things are open. Public transport runs as on a Sunday, shops and public buildings are shut, but restaurants and bars are open as normal. The only time when nearly everything shuts is on the evening of the 24th when very few restaurants and bars stay open - either eat early or be prepared for a very limited choice. Hotels are very quiet at this time and you will find rooms everywhere. I've arrived there on Christmas Eve and just walked into a hotel to find a room - there are lots in the centre.

My husband and I stayed at Mundia on Rua Dom Duarte the last time we were in Lisboa. It is in Baixa, just steps from Praca da Fugueira. It is only a 3-star hotel, but the location is excellent. Our room (brand new SPACIOUS bathroom) had an outstanding view of Castelo St. Jorge. The Restauradoes Metro Station is nearby, and you can easily walk to Alfama, Bairro Alto, and Estrela. I adore Lisboa.
