3 night Lisbon trip
Flying over from London for quick trip. Need recommendations for very nice hotel (4 to 5*). Want to be able to do a lot of walking. Need Italian restaurant recommendations. Also when only there for short time, is it worth going on day trip to Sintra. What else to do?

Hotel Mundial (4*) is my choice for a centrally located Hotel in Lisbon.
Take a Lisbon-by-night tour to Fado Clubs in Barrios Altos. At least a half day visit to Belém and another half day to the Expo'98 site near the Vasco de Gama bridge.
Italian Restaurant in Lisbon? You've got to be kidding! Try the ground florr of the Sagres Brewery building on Avda. da Liberdade: Great Marisco!
Don't miss Lisbon Pastries. I recommend Pasteleria Versailles on Avda da Republica at Duque de Avila (Metro Saldanha).

I have stayed at Mundial. Whilst it is in an excellent location for walking to the main tourist sites around Baixa, Alfama, and Chiada, it is not a luxury hotel. Views of Castelo Sao Jorge are fantastic from certain rooms, as is the view from the restaurant on the roof. Da Lapa is very posh, but a bit out of the way. You would have to cab it to many places. The Ritz is also a possibility, as it is not too far from the main sites. Plus, you could take the Metro.
I have never seen an Italian restaurant in Lisboa. My favourite restaurant is Stasha in Bairro Alto (Rua das Gaveas). I don't know if it is still open, however. The restaurants around Restauradoes are horrid.

Some hotel suggestions:
Regency Chiado: 40 rooms in the heart of Chiado, Fabulous views of the Castelo Sao Jorge over the roof tops of Baixa from the bar, terrace and breakfast room (and some guest rooms) Ask for a room with a patio and view of the castle. Don’t be put off by the non-existent lobby.

Bairro Alto: 55 rooms in a renovated 18th century building. Contemporary décor with bark wood paneling. Rooftop Terrace and fitness center with views. Short walk to Chiado and Bairro Alto shops and restaurants.
Flores, the restaurant at the hotel was overpriced and disappointing.
