Hotel suggestion for Dusseldorf in August

My son and I will be in Dusseldorf August 15-19 and would appreciate advice on where to stay. I found a few online sites for booking. Our price range is around $100/night. The Acora Hotel looks good but I don't know if it is too far from the city center. It has good ratings. I feel a little intimidated because this is a last minute trip (4 weeks) and I have never been to Germany. I've been to Italy, England and Scotland. My son has taken 3 years of college German and is ready to try out his skills. Thanks so much for any help (and encouragement) you can give.

We just spent a night in Dusseldorf & I have to admit did not care for the city at all. That said, be sure to get a room with AC. It was quite warm when we were there & we regretted not having AC.

If that's the Acora Hotel in the suburb of Reisholz (In der Donk 6), I would not recommend staying there. It's not near the city center and it's located next to the largest detergent factory in Germany.
The best location in Dus is near the Königsallee, check with www.hrs.de under Centrum (center).
Dus has a lot to offer, especially (upscale) shopping, museums and the Altstadt (old city).

Don't take the Acora! It is far away from everything.

The best hotel in Düsseldorf which is right in the heart of things is Hotel Orangerie. A charming boutique hotel, 100 metres from the Rhine, in a quiet location, and 300 metres from the Altstadt.

There is an Ibis with its front door in the main hall of the train station.

There is an Ibis with its front door in the main hall of the train station. Ibis is a reasonably priced chain.

Years ago I stayed in a quaint little hotel on Karlplatz. When I went there in January this year it had become the 5 star Carat Hotel. It is certainly city center but it can't be $100.

The Altstadt has a great selection of eateries and night life. Have a bier in the Doctor Jazz. Königsallee is one of the more interesting shopping streets in Europe.
