Hotel San Moise Venice

I feel I must relate our experience with the Hotel San Moise in Venice ..

My wife and I had made reservations for a three night stay at the Hotel San Moise through venere.com for our trip at the end of May, confirming the reservation directly with the hotel via email two weeks before our scheduled departure. Imagine my shock when I received an email the day before our departure from venere.com confirming our cancellation of the San Moise reservation! Of course, no other rooms were to be found in Venice on such short notice.

After several days and numerous emails back and forth, the San Moise found space for us for our three nights in Venice. As we had already made alternate lodging arrangements, we declined their offer. We were pleasantly surprised when the San Moise offered us two nights free lodging later this year. As our daughter and her cousin were going to be in Venice two weeks later, we were able to take them up on their offer.

The girls just returned from their trip with nothing but raves for the San Moise, its location and the services they provided. My daughter said that the staff paid special attention to them, making sure all of their needs were met.

The Hotel San Moise took a disastrous situation and turned it into a good experience for all. Thanks to them for taking the extra steps necessary to resolve the issues. My wife and I look forward to staying at the San Moise the next time we are in Venice.

I'm glad your experience with the San Moise worked out, however, I don't trust those folks, and consequently, wouldn't recommend them. One time (before I did the apt. thing in Venice) I was booked there, and they did the classic switcheroo on me, advising that some rooms had "water damage" or something and they would have to move me to another hotel. There was nothing wrong with the room, it was just that I was only staying 2 nights, and I'm sure they had booked the room for a longer stay. The alternate hotel was barely acceptable, (after I changed rooms)-nope, wouldn't go back to them.

My attitude is that problems are inevitable when you travel. It’s how the problems are handled that can make or break the trip. In this instance, the San Moise handled the problem well and they deserve credit for that.

True, but when a hotel has repeated problems of this nature (and it has) then it's off the list. You don't want to have to arrive at a hotel to be told without prior notice that you're moving to another. That's a mark of poor ownership/management.

And let me emphasize the issue: I believe the San Moise mgmt. was lying to me-they wanted to rent my room at a higher rate than what I had paid for it-the front desk said nothing about any rooms having any problems, until the hotel manager got there and took me aside to "explain" the situation to me. I had no other option at that point except to go the other hotel.

Too bad San Moise has such a bad reputation. I stayed there a few years ago and loved it. The staff was very nice and helpful in every single way possible.
We had reservations for three nights and had to cancel one night because of a train strike. They didn't charge us for the cancellation and in fact when we got there they upgraded our room...because we had come from Jamaica and had to cut short our Venice trip! I thought that was nice.
