Bullfight in Barcelona or Madrid?

I am going to be in Barcelona from July 2 through July 5 (late Sunday night through late Wednesday night)and in Madrid from July 5th (late Wednesday night) through July 9 (leaving early Sunday morning). Are there any bullfights during those times in either city or are they only on Sunday in Madrid?
Thanks!

If not in these two cities- is there bullfighting in any cities nearby that we can go to during that time?
Thanks!

In Madrid, the bullfights seem to be every Sunday. Since you have to leave early morning on the 9th, it would appear that you are out of luck. Couldn't find anything about Barcelona and Sevilla seems to be out of the question as well.

www.las-ventas.com

The bullfight at Las Ventas was one of my most memorable experiences in Spain, and if you get a chance, do try to see it at Las Ventas (the Yankee Stadium or Old Trafford of bullfighting). I also saw lots of bullfights in Pamplona during running of the bulls, but that's not until July.

Bullfights are not as common in BCN as in other cities, and those dates showed nothing when I searched the website, so I think it is either Madrid or nada.

There are bullfights during the fiesta in Pamplona beginning on 6 July with the rejones, bullfighting from horseback. The traditional bullfights begin on the 7th.

There is nothing scheduled for Barcelona during your stay, but there is a bullfight scheduled in Madrid on Sunday, 9 July.

I am curious what is your iternary while in Madrid. I will also be in Madrid or possible surrounding areas July 5th -July 10. What hotels are you staying at. The cost.

Thanks,

We are staying at the Hotel Regente in Madrid which seems to be fairly centrally located. As for itinerary- it isn't hammered out yet so any suggestions for our three day stay there are appreciated. We want to go to the Prado but dont want to do too much other museum stuff.
Thanks for all the advice re: bullfights!

I did watch a bullfight last year on TV with my Spanish friend while in Madrid.

I was shocked at how much I got into it! Weird for me, I am always the one on the animals' side in these issues. Having a cute Spaniard by my side explaining things blow by blow may have temporarily distracted me from my ususal stance. It was one of those strange experiences where you find yourself doing or enjoying things in a different country than you would ever even imagine doing at home...

Anyway, what I meant to say was that the outside of las Ventas is quite lovely and I would suggest taking some photos even if you don't end up going to a fight there.

Do you like nightlife? Madrid has great nightlife, from traditional (the cavas with flamenco music), tapas places, fun bars and pubs, jazz, and the whole dance club scene if you are into that.

Cool off under the trees in the fabulous Retiro Park. Even if you aren't museum people, try and see Picasso's Guernica at the Reina Sofia.

Thanks Annabelle! Where's a good place to go to see (or learn!) flamenco?

tab- the best places in Madrid for flamenco are Casa Patas, Los Canasteros, and Amor de Dios. Los Canasteros is my favorite tablao in the city, and if they are hosting a good artist, you are in for a treat!

I am in a big debate as to whether I should purchase tickets to the Bullfight on line before my trip or wait until I get there. I do not know if I will watch the whole event. However, I do want to see it so my only chance is Sunday July 9th. Do the bullfights ever sell out? Is is hard to get tickets long lines? Opinions. Same for the flamenco Should I purchase tickets on line? or wait until I get there...............

Bullfights do sell out and whether you buy now or there will not change if you stay the whole time or not. So, buy now and at least you secure your space.

As for the flamenco, check the websites. I have never been shut out of los Canasteros, but I have friends that have.

Does anyone else think that bullfights are really, really gross? How about a nice afternoon at the Prado?

personally, watching an animal die isnt my idea of a fun time.
That is just my opinion, others can do as they want.

At the risk of starting a flame-throwing contest; Yes, Maismadude, I went to a bullfight in madrid and found it barbaric. Unfortunately for me, I was "treated" to seats right on the ring so the true horror of it was not mitigated by a combination of poor eyesight and distance.

I consider it one of life's experiences, but monkeys will fly out of my buttocks before I go again.

Why would anyone who is an "animals rights fanatic" go to a bullfight in the first place, especially on who eats meat of any kind? Just a thought as I was passing through.
