My husband and I are looking for budget to moderately priced hotels in Sorrento, Rome, Venice, the Florence area (open to towns in Tuscany as well as Florence proper) and randomly Berlin.

We don't have many requirements for the hotel as we expect to be out and about most of the time however, we would like clean accomodations in an area where we would feel safe.

Suggestions??

Rates will vary a bit in Sorrento depending on the season, so it would be helpful to also when you plan to go.

Berlin hotels are very reasonably priced.
Number of 4 star hotels will be in your price range.
I like Melia in Mitte.

Price varies a LOT especially in Venice, from my XX times of stay in the city, depending on when you will be there. It could cost only 1/3 in the low seasons of what you’d pay in high seasons. October is a high season.
Example : I stayed 2 weeks ago at Ca' Zose, 3-star almost B&B like very good hotel with about 12 rooms in rather quiet Dorsoduro Area, 2 minutes walk to Salute Church. For a double room standard for 4 nights ( a owner lady told me size wize there is not much difference, so I took the cheapeast one and the room was not tiny at all ( that you usually expect in Venice especially for what you paid). I paid total € 223 (average €56 per night) breakfast included (+ you need to pay the city tax separately. € 1.25 per day, per adult for low season – 3*. You pay double in normal to high season). Now I looked for mid October and thier rates are from €165. So you see the difference. No luxurious hotel by any means but very charming, very clean.

I have stayed at somewhat less nicer hotels as well in the past and those should cost much less as well. Example :
Hotel Bernardi Semenzato, maybe 2*. Central location in Canaregio area. Cheapest rooms can be with shared bathroom.

For a hotel in Florence, if service and location is your main requisite I can highly recommend Hotel Burchianti as long as Mario and his son are still working there - their animated conversations together while you are eating breafast are typically Italian - and you'll probably be dragged into the conversation at some stage . Added bonus is that its only a couple doors away from a pizza restuarant called Ciro & Sons where I had the best pizza I've ever experienced...4 times! The room I had in the hotel would appeal to certain tastes but not all. Little natural light, but it was HUGE (not sure if thats typical of all the rooms there) and the ceilings were frescoed in the usual renaissance style.

Think I paid about 105E per night in Sept 2011 with one night free as part of 6 night deal booked directly through their website).

JFtravels, I have no recommendations in that budget range. I'll just point out that October is still high season in most of your destinations in Italy.

Thanks for all the info everyone. The b and b in venice sounds perfect. I'd rather charm. Same thing with the hotel in Florence Cdchi reccomended.

Again, not thinking I will find luxury for these prices more just after experience and cleanliness and safety.
