Hotel Poseidon,Lipari
Esteemed fodorites,
We'll be traveling to Lipari in late October. I know that Hotel Carasco ends its season in mid October so I have sent emails to Hotel Poseidon twice with no response. Does anyone know a good way to get a response to a reservation request from them or is there an alternative hotel that you seem to like?
Many Thanks!!! Lisa

Try the Affittacamere Enzo il Negro on Via Garibaldi, 50 meters from Marina Piccola (hydrofoil docks). www.enzoilnegro.3000.it
It has 8 rooms with private facilities and a rooftop terrace with good views. It remains open all year. It is less expensive than the Poseidon, but is technically not a "hotel". Location is excellent. The Poseidon is 100 yards from Marina Grande (car ferry docks) and 10 yards off of Corso Vittorio Emanuele at its northern end, also a good location, but at the opposite end of town. Also try the Hotel Augustus, although a bit more expensive.

The end of my previous message was cut off. The Hotel Augustus is practically next door to the Poseidon. It is a little more expensive. There are several other options if you wish (although inland a few blocks and not near the two docks).

Last year we stayed at Hotel Poseidon and liked it quite a lot -- particularly the price, but also the location and the "charm" rather than any real luxury.
But we too had problems at first hearing back from them. I've lost track now of how long it took. But I think we found they were closed much of the year and didn't respond to us until about this time of year for a July stay.
And to be honest, I'm not even sure they will be open in "late October".

I would wager that the Poseidon will be open in "late October", unless advance bookings are SOOO soft that they elect to close early for the winter. This is known to happen in Summer resorts such as Lipari, which is why it is useful to have a backup hotel if traveling during the very end of the tourist season. Rest assured, however, that there WILL be decent accommodations available on Lipari (even in November and December), with no difficulty in securing them.

I did just receive an email from Enzo Il Negro and I think I'll go with them. They are offering a bathroom, refrigerator, air conditioning (which we probably won't need),a balcony and view of the sea for 60 euros...plus the location sounds like a plus! Thanks to all!!!!
