We've stayed at La Badia and enjoyed it very much. The room was large, with a sitting area and tiny balcony that had a great view of Orvieto perched on the hill. The restaurant was excellent. We only stayed the one night so didn't use the pool or tennis courts.

We also stayed at Locanda Rosati, and enjoyed it very much, especially the 4-course dinner, served family style. DRJ left out the lemoncello from the stuff that "flows."
I think it's on a bus route, but I would guess you would need a car to stay there. You could e-mail them to find out. It's about 4-6 miles outside of Orvieto up on a hill. On the drive down, there are some great views of Orvieto.

Another vote for Locanda Rosati. Be sure to request half board and join in for the group dinner. I don't remember which room I had, but I think it was the porcupine room--very spacious room, king or queen bed (not two doubles, but one bed), with private bathroom with shower.
