hotel near orvieto
We will be doing a walking trip in Tuscany and Umbria ending up in Orvieto. Can anyone recommend a lovely villa or hotel in the vicinity where we can relax before returning to Rome?Any feedback about La Badia Hotel? Thanks!

Google for Albergo Rosati. Its a few km south of Orvieto. The proprietor holds forth over dinner and the wine and grapp flows until its gone. About a dozen great rooms. |
La Badia is lovely but expensive. Locanda Rosati is not as fancy but sure is fun at half the price.

I forgot to say this upstream, but in Orvieto you must visit I Sette Consoli, my favorite restaurant in all of Italy.

We've stayed at La Badia and enjoyed it very much. The room was large, with a sitting area and tiny balcony that had a great view of Orvieto perched on the hill. The restaurant was excellent. We only stayed the one night so didn't use the pool or tennis courts.

We also stayed at Locanda Rosati, and enjoyed it very much, especially the 4-course dinner, served family style. DRJ left out the lemoncello from the stuff that "flows." :-)
I think it's on a bus route, but I would guess you would need a car to stay there. You could e-mail them to find out. It's about 4-6 miles outside of Orvieto up on a hill. On the drive down, there are some great views of Orvieto. ((b)) |
Another vote for Locanda Rosati. Be sure to request half board and join in for the group dinner. I don't remember which room I had, but I think it was the porcupine room--very spacious room, king or queen bed (not two doubles, but one bed), with private bathroom with shower.
