Hotel LaPerouse in Nice or Hotel Hermitage in Monte Carlo..need help deciding..

Calling on my fellow travelers to help with a decision regarding where to stay..our family of 4 will be arriving by train from Beaune and need some advice. We have heard great things about La Perouse in Nice and also Hotel Hermitage in Monte Carlo..we haven't been to either place and are staying 2 nights...we are traveling with our 2 teenage daughters and are looking for atmosphere and a place to enjoy the sunshine. Anyone have any advice/input? Thank much!

Certainly Nice and the La Pérouse; your daughters will enjoy the people-watching along the Promenade des Anglais and the adjacent beach (but no sand: just pebbles for the most part). Wandering around old Nice, quite close to the hotel, is a lot of fun, especially in the evening. Monte Carlo, on the other hand, isn't especially lively unless you're rich and/or interested in the casinos (which Nice also has, BTW).

The La Pérouse is a wonderful hotel, and the location can't be beat You can have breakfast in the lovely patio or walk through the Cours Saléya--where the market takes place daily--to our favorite spot, Le Pain Quotidien, which has wonderful breads, spreads, and homemade jams. It's on a street lined with interesting, tempting shops.

Nice will probably be the better option for you and the girls. While Monte Carlo is beautiful, it's very small and not too much to do.
Nice however has lots of shops and areas to walk around. If you're looking for commments on the hotels, go to www.tripadvisor.com. Lots of people have given opinons on the hotels.

Thanks Underhill and Melissa1. I think Nice is sounding like a better option, especially with our teenagers. Really
appreciate your input!

You'll see a lot of kids rollerblading sidewalk on the Mediterranean side, if that's of interest to your girls.

Monte Carlo is just an upmarket Birmingham, so overrated.
