Hotel in York England...Dean court..any opinions?

Hi all
was just about to book this but will wait til i get the train tickets ( London)
This place is in Duncombe Place very central apparently and has good reviews
Does anyone know this area> any other recommendations?
want to be near the centre..as close as possible ...without getting close to any noisy pubs/clubs
thanks
(budget around 160pounds per night but less would be great)

Not having stayed there I don't know what it's like, but I do know where it is; it's opposite the Minster so a lovely location.

If it ticks your boxes and is within budget then book it, I'm sure it'll be fine.

Hotel du Vin is nice but not as central.

A lovely central location. When my parents stayed there aeons ago, York Minster was the view from their loo window.

A really terrific location - and AFAIK one of the nicest hotels in the city.

I stayed here for one night several years back and had a comfortable, clean, quiet room and a fantastic breakfast included in rate. Location is great. I'll stay here again when I return to York. Hope you get a good rate!

Gray's Court, a wonderful-looking place and supposedly the oldest-inhabited house in England, was recently featured on an English TV documentary.

I have no idea what the room prices are, but here's the website...

Dean Court is great. Fantastic location, get a room with a view of the Minster. Comfortable rooms.

Cedar Court Grand is good too, probably a bit more, and slightly less central, on the other side of the river. But huge rooms and a pool/spa too.

oh thanks so much for the replies...seems positive so Ill book it for three nights...it did have great reviews on trip advisor but it is great to read that some fodorites can confirm!
we do want as central as possible so we will put up with 'less grand' and 'more in the midst'!
