Hotel in Paris
Looking for recommendations for a hotel in Paris for 2 nights --- August 11-12, 2013 for 2 adults. Would like to be near the train station (heading to Italy on the morning of the 13th). Do not really know the areas/districts in Paris -- but are planning to visit the usual Paris attractions....Eiffel Tower, boat cruise on seine, Arc de Triompe, etc.. No issue with taking the Metro.... Something under $200CDN per night would be great! If possible!

Your train station will be the Gare de Lyon and I don't recommend the neighborhood, not particlarly wonderful. The center of Paris is small, the 5th arrondisement near the Jardin des Plantes is quite close by taxi. Or on the other side, less central but very near the Bois de Vincennes, is the popular Hotel Porte Doree (Metro Porte Doree). I can recommend it. The 46 bus stops right at the door or cross the street to the Metro. http://www.hoteldelaportedoree.com/

Which train station - there are several but being near your departure station may not be the ideal location for sightseeing. IMO, don't limit yourself with that parameter. I like the Hotel Muguest - probably around your pricepoint. You will get alot of suggestions. Paris is a bit spread out, not all major sights will be easily walkable from one location but public transportation is your friend and can take you anywhere you want to go.

I try to stay near train stations if I want to walk to them (or a short metro ride) and I'm only in Paris a day or two. It makes sense and for a short time, I don't care about the hotel that much. There is nothing wrong with the area around Gare de Lyon, it is perfectly fine. I wouldn't stay right across the street from it (or any train station), but the area between it and the Bastille column is nice and convenient for both sightseeing and the train. 200 CDN is about 150 euro, and a lot of hotels in Paris have discounts in August, that is the good thing.
I've stayed in the Pavillon Bastille which was very nice and only 135 euro a double in August. It's only one metro stop to the Gare de Lyon. http://www.paris-hotel-pavillonbasti...m/uk/index.php
I think being in that Bastille area would be convenient, in general. The Hotel Castex is also only bout a block from that metro stop and it has rates 150 euro for a double http://www.castexhotel.com/#!/chambres

Because we had an early train the next day from the Gare de Lyon, we spent the night before at the Hotel Terminus Lyon directly across the street from the station. We liked it. They are showing rates for your dates from €105/night.
