Trying to finalize plans for our Italy trip. We are planning on spending our last two nights in Rome. We are looking for a hotel or B & B for about $150 per night. We are flying out in the morning at 9:30 am. Is the train the best way to get to the airport? Should we stay near the Train station? Thanks in advance!

If you have not been to Rome before, two nights is not enough time to see it.
There is so much to see and do. If you have already been there and are just stopping through on your way home there are a few subway stations that let out right near the train station, so you don't necessarily need to limit your hotel search to right near the train station. You might be hard pressed to find accommodations for $150 a night. If you are not opposed to hostels you might want to look into one, they can be quite affordable. You are better to stay in central Rome, especially with such limited time. Take a look at B&B Al Centro di Roma.

How many is we? And are you opposed to a curfew? Some of the convents have simple rooms and decent breakfasts that you could get for that.

Do not stayoutside Rome. It's a very spred out city - and that could take yuo an hour each way -plus not be cheap. Why waste all that time when yours is so limited?

Look at hotels or b&b's for your dates at www.venere.com. You should stay in or around the Centro Storico since you have only 2 nights. Arrange for a car service or taxi to take you to the airport for your am flight, it is truly worth the splurge.

Ny, Staying in a convent would be intereating. What kind of curfew are we talking about? 11 pm ish, ok. 8 pm? Not so much. lol! Is there a website that lists convents with rooms?

SoCal, do you know the cost of a car service and taxi is to the airport from the Centro Storico is?

I suggest you stay someplace convenient to the Termini train station, where you can catch the Leonardo Express to the airport. We have stayed at the Hotel Aberdeen and would recommend it highly, but I don't know what it would cost when you are there. From there you can either walk or take a bus to Termini.

The taxi fare between central Rome and the airport is fixed by law, at 48 E now I think, so it is less than double the cost for two on the express train (14 E each, plus subway or taxi from hotel to train station if you can't walk). There are also private car services with rates about the same (maybe a few euros less) than the taxi. The savings in time and hassle is worth the extra cost ($20-30) to me .

Since our stay is so short, I think staying close to central Rome makes more sense. What do you think about this place? Yes, it's a bit above our range but it looks nice.

We enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Maikol, Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II 138.

It is close to the train station.
