Hotel near Fiumicino

Can anyone recommend a hotel near, but not at, the Rome (FCO) airport? We are a group of twelve adults who want to spend 2 nights near the airport in May. I know we should stay in Rome itself, but we have varied departures over two days, and would like to drop our car at the airport and use train, shuttle or taxi service to go in and out of Rome. I was looking at Fiumicino or Ostia as possibilities. Can anyone suggest a nice hotel in any area near the airport? A good restaurant at or near the hotel would be a plus. Thanks.

Two days at the airport and going in/out of Rome?! Sorry, but even with 12 different departures, I'd stay in Rome itself. See Rome, not the trains/shuttles/taxis.

Let me reinforce "should stay in Rome." Not much around the airport except for the Hilton and it is expensive. Second it will be expensive getting to and from Rome with group. Why not book a nice hotel in the Termini area to make it easy for those departing? -- unless everyone has 6AM departures.

I agree. If you want to choose a place to stay with an easy, inexpensive connection to FCO, then stay IN Rome at a hotel near Roma Termini train station. Those who are departing can walk easily to the station with their bags and take the Leonardo Express to FCO. Those who aren't departing don't have the trouble of shuttling into town.

It will almost definitely cost more or be more difficult to get to the airport from a hotel in Fiumicino or Ostia than from one near Termini in Rome. Besides, hotel restaurants are expensive and/or terrible and non-hotel restaurants few and far between.

Rethink this and stay in Rome.

There's a new bus service for travel from Fiumicino to Rome - here's the link to the info on the great Ron in Rome web-site:

http://www.roninrome.com/%20transpor...le-fco-service

if you want to see what hotels are near the airport then use google maps or Trip advisor to give you an idea. Personally, i undersstand hy your group might like this idea.

Good luck with your planning,

regards, ann

There are plenty of hotels within walking distance of Termini. Your trip will be under 30 minutes to/from Fiumicino. A ticket is 11 euros for the Leonardo Express.

If you like posh hotels, two within walking distance of Termini (at Piazza Repubblica) are Boscolo Excedra and the St. Regis Grand.

I can definitely suggest a site. Check out www.italiancollection.com. Great deals, English speaking service, and wonderful properties....It really can't be beat!

I have to give a big thumbs up for the Hilton at FCO. We were stranded there recently after missing our flight to the states and we found the place to be lovely. The best part is the FREE luxury motorcoach that goes back and forth into the city every two hours until 11 p.m. There is also a handy shuttle to take you to your terminal for your flight. If you are not going to stay in the city this is a very good alternative.

Thanks for the suggestions. While I do realize that most people would choose to stay in Rome itself (I have done so more than a dozen times) that is not our choice for this trip. If anyone else knows of any other hotel near FCO I would love to check it out.

Dobermina, thanks for the excellent website. While I won't need it for this trip I will be sure to use it for future trips.

FYI Hilton Hotels have got an offer at the moment giving up to 50% off for weekends throughout 2010 so long as you book before 31st Jan 2010.

it's worth looking at the mid-week rates too - go to the special offers tab when you get to the booking page.

Another vote for the Hilton Garden Inn. Less pricey than the Hilton, newer and you can still use the aforementioned shuttle to take you to/from central Rome.
