Hotel in Bayeux

Many people on this site have recommended the Hotel D'Argouges in Bayeux. We inquired about reservations in October and told that they have a double room available in the small house situated at the entrance of the courtyard on the first floor for 86euros. Is anyone familiar with this location. Is staying in the "small house" advisable. Should we go for it? Also, I have not been able to find a good website for this hotel.

I forgot to mention that we also have the choice of the Chateau de Bellefontaine. They have a duplex suite available for 130euros on the ground floor. I'm having a hard time understanding what this room is like. It sounds like there is a sleep sofa and then a mezzainene level with a double bed. Is anyone familiar with this? We will be staying 2-3 nights and want to make sure we pick a nice hotel.

I stayed in the "small house" this past spring and it was fine. It is sort of an annex - just next to the main bldg. I think there are about 6 rooms there - 2 on each floor. I was in a double on the 2nd floor. It was a very nice room, much larger room than most in European hotels. Very nice, modern bathroom, too. You will get 2 keys - one for your room door and one for the outside door to the bldg. I would take this one, if I were you. I don't think they have their own web site, but are on many of the group booking sites. If I can find the one I used, I will post again.

My son and I also stayed in the Annex of this hotel June 2003 for 80 euros/night including breakfast. We had a large room on the ground floor with lovely casement windows to let in the fresh breezes at night. D'Argouges graciously put us up an extra night when plans had to change slightly due to a train strike. There is a parking area and the hotel is very handy to most everything in Bayeux. Right across the street was a market; smaller on Wed but the full thing on Sat. Checked my brochure but there is only e-mail ([email protected]); they were always very prompt at answering any e-mails I sent. Very clean, very helpful staff.
