Hotel in Bamberg

Hoping to spend 4-5 nights this June based in Bamberg. Any recommendations for a good central hotel? Getting there by train so parking is not an issue

We stayed at the Best Western Hotel in Bamberg in November and were very pleased. Modern and very clean, w/ wi-fi and included breakfast. It was a bit of a walk to the central district of town, but nothing we couldn't easily handle (the four in our group in our 60's).

We loved Bamberg, though one thing that surprised us is that most (not all) of the pubs, restaurants, shops, etc., closed @ 2 pm on Saturday (Franconian/Frankish hours).

We just went to the tourist office and they were very helpful in finding a hotel room. A particularity, at least as we experienced it, is that we had to pay the total amount up front and in cash. The room was not really in a hotel but in an apartment building, and the office was a block down the street, in a restaurant. The person behind the desk led us to the nearest ATM so that we could take out the necessary cash.

You didn't mention a budget, so I'll suggest the Messerschmitt. It's looks as if it's been modernized since we stayed there and it is on the main street in the town center.

Welcome ? Hotel Restaurant Weinhaus Messerschmitt Bamberg

Thanks for the suggestion Trophywife, the Messerschmitt looks great. Our priorities are closeness to the Old Town and a comfortable, preferably traditional hotel, and since we will probably never go there again we are prepared to push the boat out with the budget.
Thanks again

We liked Hotel Nepomuk. It has traditional look with modern rooms. Right on water with great views from dining area. Bar, too. In historic area.

We stayed at the Hotel Nepomuk at Thanksgiving and really liked it. Good location, nice rooms and friendly staff.

OK - have viewed the Nepomuk's website and decided it's the one! All booked & paid for [good advanced rate, and the £ is probably not going to strengthen meanwhile]
Thanks for the help. Any "Must see" or "must dos" while there that I can factor in?
