We stayed at the Kyriad - which is an inexepensive chain. It was cheap, in a pretty good location with easy parking, and very basic. It's good for 1 night, but I would not stay there if you plan on staying 2 nights. We spent very little time at the hotel. Most of the time we were there, our eyes were closed. We never have breadfast at hotels, so can't comment on their breakfast.

We stayed at the Hotel Manche-Ocean. It is within easy walking distance of the old town. It's a standard 2 star hotel. Clean but not very roomy. We used their parking, which was unnecessary as we arrived late on Saturday afternoon and there is no metered street parking on Sundays.
The Tourist office by the port has a outside kiosk like an ATM where one can do a search for housing and restaurants. It is very useful when one arrives in town after hours, as we did. The port area has plenty of restaurants but does not seem to have any hotels.

Thank you, StuDudley and Michael, for your replies. Details, like convenient location to sights and restaurants, hotel parking availablity, etc., are so helpful when trying to decide where to stay - we'll probably spend several nights in Vannes.
