Hotel Familia or Hotel du Pantheon
Hello,
I have reserved a room at the Hotel Familia in Paris but I am considering maybe moving closer to the Jardin du Luxembourg and therefore considering the Hotel du Pantheon. Any suggestions from anyone who has stayed at either place? I've done a ton of research on both and tripadvisor.com has pros and cons to both. Thanks

Message: Tudorprincess, skip the Hotel Familia. The balcony is as charming as the photo on the website would indicate, but the room is the size of a postage stamp, the bathroom has no window is only slightly larger than an airline bathroom (I kid you not), the furnishings are all a bit careworn, and the street is incredibly busy and noisy, even at three in the morning, as I found to my dismay! Find another balcony!.."

Message: Bonjour tudorprincess, Ditto on skip Hotel Familia. Agree 100% with dln. Street noise is unbearable at all hours, especially 5:00 am trash pick-up - daily it seemed.
Re: room size: My dh came out of the bathroom and asked why I was in the bed! The only other space was in the closet which was smaller than the too small bathrm. And we booked their 'big' room MONTHS in adv. The Monsieur not the most obliging..."

Thank you! I reserved the Hotel Familia because it was the only hotel that had a balcony and was reasonable. I don't know why I want a balcony in winter anyway, just sounded charming. Although I read the reviews and became concerned. I hope that I can cancel my reservation. I'm 6 weeks out before my trip. Thank you!

Yes, I was distinctly underwhelmed with the Familia. The street it's on is a main thoroughfare and is noisy even in the middle of the night. The lobby is lovely but it appears that the renovations stopped there, as the rest of the hotel could use a serious refurbishment. And the desk manager was not very professional, either. He yelled on the phone within earshot of any people in the lobby. He should have been carrying on unpleasant business in a closed office.
I can't say I'd send anyone to this hotel. While it wasn't the worse I've ever seen, not by a longshot, there are more pleasant hotels around that would be delighted for your business.

We stayed at the Hotel Familia a year and a half ago in April. It's ok, not great, the rooms were small but that didn't bother us and I don't remember an issue with the street noise but maybe that's because we collasped from exhaustion every night. The rooms were clean but I remember the staff being rather grumpy. It's location is ok, but if you can get closer to the JdL for the same price range I would got for it.

HEllo!!
Have you try to look at the hotel Central Saint Germain (www.centralstgermain.com), a 3 star hotel not very far from the Jardin du Luxembourg...And they have rooms with balcony or terrasse. Have a good trip!
