Hotel advice for Munich

Any suggestions on where to stay in Munich? I would like to stay somewhere that is not a big hotel type. Would rather be something like an Inn or something that feels more like Germany. Thanks!

My hotel in Munich is the Astoria on Nicolaistrasse in Schwabing. It is close to the Gieselastrasse U-bahn stop and about 4 stops away from Marienplatz.

That is the same line that goes to the Nordfriedhof stop where you can take the Lufthansa bus directly to the airport without interveneing stops.

You can easily get there from the airport. Take the Lufthansa bus to the Nordfriedhof stop, descend into the subway tunnel, purchase your tickets from a machine, cancel them before you board the train, get off at the Muenchener Freiheit stop, go up the elevator, walk south on Leopoldsrasse to Gieselastrasse, turn left, and the Astoria is in front of you.

Or, have the Lufthansa bus driver order a cab for you, and go the rest of the way in ease.
That is what I do, and have done so
several times.

Try to get room 301 or 201. They are a little more expensive, but spacious and on the back side of the hotel.

The breakfast at the Astoria is fantastic. You will not find a better breakfast in anything less than a 5 star hotel. The selection of breads, cheeses, meats, and dairy products is huge and you can stuff yourself.

Check out this hotel in Munich. http://www.abaka.com/Germany/Bristol/

I have stayed here the last two trips to Munich and really like it. It is walking distance ( 10 min.) to main train station and Marienplatz area (5 min.) Great buffet breakfast included, nice neighborhood. Very affordable.

travelin,

A nice alternative to the oversized, impersonal, American-style hotel is the Hotel Uhland. It's moderately priced, very distinctive, and located in a quiet neighborhood, just a bratwurst toss from the Oktoberfest grounds. My wife and I stayed at the Uhland last summer, and I wouldn't hesitate making a return visit.

The Uhland has its own website: www.hotel-uhland.de

Best of luck.

Right across from the Hauptbahnhof, trolley stop in front, parking, inexpensive, nice people, free internet, huge Frühstück. What else could you ask for?

We were in Munich in October and enjoyed Hotel Uhland. Great location, people, parking and overall good value.
