Hostal Adriano or Hostal Adria Santa Ana
Fellow Fodorites.....I will be in Madrid for 2 nights 2/6 and 2/7 with my 2 adult daughters. I'm looking at these 2 hostals: Adriano and Adria Santa Ana. Which would you recommend? Or are there others. These run about 80 euros/night. I want clean, comfortable, quiet, and nice staff..........oh, and location! Thanks.

Our family had two rooms at the Hostal Adria Santa Ana in December 2009 - a double room and a twin room. We found the location excellent - just down the road from Plaza Santa Ana. The rooms were comfortable and clean but the bathroom in the double room was miniscule. I think the one in the twin room may have been a big bigger but it was still small. Be aware though that there is no lift and, if I recall correctly, there were three flights of stairs to walk up. Hostal Adriano, which you check in at, had a lift if that is a concern to you.
We found that the pictures on the hostal's website accurately reflected what we found.
Hope this has been of some help.

I can warmly recommend close by Hostal Persal, about 70-75€ for a double. http://www.booking.com/hotel/es/madr...madrid.en.html

I stayed at Adria Santa Ana and have recommended it here. I think there are 2 important differences between the hostals.
The first is that ASA has no elevator, as mentioned above. The stairs are also a bit tricky, uneven in every way, slippery and can be a challenge. It's 3 flights up.
The second is that there really is no staff on site at ASA. Housekeeping comes but I only saw someone there once during the course of 6 days. The staff is on site at Adriano. At ASA you have a phone to call the front desk at Adriano, but that's not the same thing.
At ASA you're provided with a key to the floor and then key to your room. There are also security cameras at the entry way.
Location itself isn't an issue since the 2 are about a 3 minute walk apart. ASA may be "at" Plaza Santa Ana, but you don't have a view of it from the rooms.

We stayed at the Tryp Washington in November of 2009 and really liked the hotel. I forget what we paid but it was reasonable and we are budget travelers. The room was large with a big bathroom, tub and shower. They had room darkening curtains and it was quiet. There are some very good breakfast places right around the hotel and it is close to metro stations. Look at the reviews in Tripadvosor.
