Cheryl, good luck. If they're full, do a couple more searches here, one for Piazza Navona Hotels and one for Pantheon Hotels, as there are some others that might be good in the area. I can't give specific hotels, as I usually stay in an apartment, but I think you'll be much happier in that area.

Susan--

Thanks--since this is not a first wedding;-) we are still working on finalizing the event that leads to the trip--I am convinced this is the best location and we will work it out --C

The date is set! August 17 2007 We are finalizing our trip for the last two weeks of September 2007--Venice 4 nights, Tuscany 4 nights and Rome 5 nights---still working on airfare and considering flying round trip to Rome and taking the train to Venice because we can get non-stop flights---given the timeframe it is unlikely we will be able to use miles to upgrade --my intuition says go with with the connecting flight to Milan and avoid the train from Rome--thoughts?

Hi H,

It will take about 6 hr to get from FCO to Venice SL by train.

It will take about 4 hr from Milan MPX.

If you have a decent connection time to Milan, I would go that way.

I agree, what's the good of a direct flight if you only have to get on a train to get to your destination. Take the flight with a connection.

Flying roundtrip Rome means some wasted vacation time on the ground in Italy. I, too, would take the connecting flight and fly to Venice, home from Rome. Take trains between cities.
