Help with trip to Norway
Hi All, just starting to plan another trip to Norway. Its been over 10 years, so I feel a little rusty.
Wanted some advice on airline choices.
Leaving from NY/or Newark... Non stop flight
Any airline suggestions
Note__I will be traveling with extended family, including small children
We would like to fly into Oslo, then will drive to Tonsberg to stay with Family there.
We would like to take some day trips, a fjord outing, and possibly ferry over to Denmark.
Any suggestions or advice greatly appreciated.
Note- We have already done Norway in a Nutshell, which was fantastic, and we would consider doing it again, now that we are bringing the kids.
Thanks in advance!!!!

While non-stop seems to be an easy solution, look at your routing and other factors to see if other flight arrangements actually integrate better with the entire trip. While others might recommend a simple solution - based on their unstated circumstances, you need to look at your particular circumstances such as when the flight leaves, when it arrives, whether your group can/cannot sleep on flight. If they can sleep on flight, leaving late in the afternoon home time and arrive in the morning in Oslo is ideal. If they cannot sleep on the plane, it is a torture - having spend most of the day at home, then long sleepless flight on plane, only to be placed at the beginning of the day to stay awake another day.
I just went to Norway this May, and while I could have taken less layover flight into Oslo, when integrating it with the Norway in a Nutshell, I found out the trip was actually less hectic if I took a flight with more changes, but arrived in Bergen in the morning via another European city with more frequent connections from the US. Look at NIN both directions to see which way fits your itinerary better even if you fly in/out of Oslo.
If you are going to Denmark, you need to decide if you want to do it as a trip from Norway then back to Norway, fly into Denmark first then Norway and back from Norway, or fly into Norway and end the trip in Denmark to fly home. The open-jaw would open up significantly more flight choices as well as eliminating back-tracking time, cost, and hassles.

Hi ladybug, I have used Iceland Air a few times for flights between LHR and MSP with a stop at Keflavik. The whole operation is very efficient, and the stopover neatly breaks up the transatlantic journey. Only once did I take a short layover, but I think you would really enjoy it. I used www.re.is

Instead of going to Denmark, I recommend to spend more time in Oslo, a very special cosmopolitan medium sized city by the lovely fjord and surrounded by the hills and the popular Oslomarka/Nordmarka forest. Plenty of possibilities for day trips/fjord outings and many other experiences.
