Help with logistics, please. Daytrip to Malaga from Sevilla
By a quirk, I found out today that a wonderful woman I have worked with for years will be travelling to Malaga on the weekend of 21 Feb. I think she said her travel dates were the 19th through the 23rd. We work on the same project in different capacities: she's in London and I'm in the states. It's been several years since I've seen her and was wondering what the logistics are of making a trip to Malaga? (Actually, that's just where she is flying into. She's staying with a friend who recently immigrated to Spain from the UK.... it could be somewhere else along the Costa del Sol.) From the map, the distances don't look too bad and viamichelin.com says it's little more than a two hour drive from Sevilla to Malaga. Osuna might be a nice stop along the way.
The other bit is that we had only planned three nights in Sevilla with most of four days. I think we would easily enjoy all four of those days in Sevilla just poking around.
So, sometimes surprises come up and alter the best-laid plans.
We leave for Barcelona on Saturday (14 Feb)and although we have a full week planned in Barcelona because we prefer to travel and absorb a place, the Barcelona time is a bit flexible since we were planning to take the TrenHotel and will need to buy train tickets once we arrive in Spain.
Any insights would be appreciated. What would be the best transportation options?
Ah, my husband just poked his head in and suggested we see if we can all rendevous in Cadiz and enjoy Carnival. Hmmmm? Anyone know of a place in Cadiz that would make a good meeting spot. Transportation options for Sevilla to Cadiz?
We are open to suggestions. Ideas, practicalities, etc? At this point we can still alter our hotel dates. Maybe an overnight is a better option. (Oh, I'm torn! I hate to see the time in Sevilla disappear.)
Thanks for any and all input on the various options, Sharon.

This is our first trip to Spain.... if that makes a difference. I speak what I call "tourist Spanish" and have gotten by in Peru, Guatemala and Honduras. I won't say I'm fluent, but I find that others use me as an interpreter and that I understand most of what I hear.

Can't help in spending more or less time in Sevilla. I will rather stay there than travel to the coast or Cadiz.
There are train services for Cadiz and Malaga.
For Cadiz you are probably not going to need a car, the train station is quiet central and the fun not far. It is also a good meeting point. There is only one and the line ends there, next stop by boat is La Habana.
If you decide to go to Malaga, the city, then train is fine but if your friends are somewhere in the Costa del Sol, you will find more convinient to travel by car, in the way from sevilla you have Osuna and Antequera for a stop.
