Sandi, that's what the OP did in the reply just above yours. That link takes you to the one picture he is referencing.

Nikki, Sandi, and all the rest of you -

And now I've posted a new thread per the suggestion of the poster before last!

Thanks all,

Sam

From the pose, this might be a statue of a Roman senator or orator but that's just a wild guess.

His toga could just as easily be Greek to me.

Looks in very good condition.

If you can send a jpg. to the head of sculpture or ancient sculpture at the Louvre they might help you.

Interesting idea Cathinjoetown - guess that couldn't hurt. I'll give it a try and let everyone know if it works. In the meantime, if anyone else can ID it please let me know.

Thanks,

Sam

Well I've sent my inquiry off to the Louvre. Who knows when/if I'll get a response. In the meantime, I did more digging and may have found my statue on the Louvre website (it's hard looking for one of 4,500 statues). Here's the url of the web page that I THINK is my statue if anyone is interested.

If this is "my" statue, I do have to say that I think my photo is superior to the one provided by the Louvre - LOL.

Thanks cigalechanta. It's so nice when my immodesty is validated!

Sam

P.S. And thanks to the diligent Fodorites for helping me with my earlier problem of posting the link to my photo. Too bad that Kodak support people aren't as smart as we are!

So glad you found it. A priest's assistant--I was pretty far off thinking he was a senator!

Cool. So this is an igor with a body from one source and the rest added later. Bit freaky, really.
