Help w/ "LateRooms" and "Lastminute" websites

Has anyone used these websites and with what satisfaction? I was saving one three day reservation to do on LateRooms for our Rome trip. When I call the hotel, as indicated by LateRooms, the persons I have spoken with quote me a rate 20 euro higher, and they seem totally unaware of what "LateRooms" is. When I try to give the Reference number, they keep saying they don't understand and ask for the dates...as if they think the reference number I am giving is some sort of mixed up date. I've tried twice now, and though I am trying to be very polite, I can tell the desk clerks are getting frustrated when I simply don't accept the room rate they quote. They seem to be confusing the last minute websites with the idea of low and high seasons, and keep telling me that once in March, we will be in the high season. Thanks in advance. Sandy

Late Rooms books certain hotels when you call the late rooms number. For other hotels, you have to call the hotel directly. It seems that the hotel is unaware that they have a special laterooms rate.

I have found rooms cheaper than late rooms at time, although for a different hotel, not the exact same room. Recently, I wanted to waste a bit of money and booked at the Hilton Kensington (London). The Hilton website's rate was lower than late rooms rate of similar hotels.

I used lastminute.com in England this past Dec. for Le Meridien at Gatwick airport. I got a rate of 70 GBP/nite. When we arrived at the hotel, they claimed this rate was a day rate, not overnight. I had a printed confirmation from Lastminute. After MUCH arguing, they honored the rate. Others were having the same problem while we were checking in. Don't know how they fared.

I used laterooms last year in London to reserve a room in Bath with no problem at all. Just called the hotel and said quoted the laterooms price, etc. Maybe you need to ask to speak to the manager if you haven't yet tried that. You could also fax them a printout of the lateroom page. good luck.

Good idea on faxing the LateRooms page. I don't want to have to argue once I get there and be on bad terms with the hotel staff or look like an "Ugly American." I did just find the same rate on HotelBook.com. Anyone used that? THanks, Sandy
