Help! St. Tropez hotels

My husband and I are taking our 11 month old daugher to France and visiting St. Tropez for the first time. We are confused about which hotel would really be the best. We need a pool, walking access to the town, or at least part of it for restaurants, people watching, the beach. Don't want to spend $400+ for a room. Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated. The web sites are all starting to look alike. Many thanks!

We stayed at Hotel des Lices [135 av. Augustin-Grangeon, St-Tropez 83991] last summer. I think we paid something like Euro 190/night/$250 for a lovely--albeit small--room on a second floor. As a matter of fact, it is a very-well maintained property. The price did not include breakfast, but one could (1) either buy one for a fee at the hotel or (2) get breakfast in town for a lot less. The hotel has a very nice swimming pool and is about a three-minute walk to the village. I would recommend that you 'google' the name and take a look.

Hotel Sube (spelling?) is in the prime, prime position at the old port overlooking those big boats. It is in the middle of everything. In April 2 years ago we paid 120 euro per night. There is a bar on the second floor where all be sailing types hang out.

You're never going to get walking distance to town AND beach, as the beaches are not in town. I've just seen two articles about Pastis Hotel, and it looks lovely. Run by Brits, with 9 room, overlooking the port or the pool. www.pastis-st-tropez.com. When are you going? Traffic can get very bad in July and August.

There is a beach to walk to - my spelling is questionable here Cannabiers. We stayed in St. Tropez in an apartment outside of town; but love the town. We won't go in July or August. Next time, we're going to try to stay at the Sube. It is in such a lovely location, and we probably could be less budget concious.
Maybe the baby is a heavy sleeper.

The Sube gets my vote. No pool and no beach, though, but the location is so quintessentially St. Tropez and the rooms are nice enough.

We absolutely loved the Sube and got the prime room with the larger balcony in front. One evening we decided not to go out to dinner, but got food and wine and sat on our balcony to watch the "parade" in front of us. But as it started to get dark, huge halogen lights came on aimed right at us -- the hotel lights up at night. We felt like we were on stage.

The lack of a pool might be a problem, but don't most pools prohibit toddlers in them anyway?
