Europeans don;t follow the white shoes after Labor Day rule - since their Labor Day is May 1 - and is a serious holiday.
It's a resort - but September also starts to get cooler at night so be sure you have a couple of light sweaters - esp for when you're on the water.

Yes - have been there twice and it is definitely a resort with resort wear.
My beau won;t travel without a jacket or at least a blazer (since this is business casual for him - he's usually 3 piece suit and tie) and he wore it a couple of upscale places in Capri - but don't think it was necessary in any.
But your husband will need some sort of jacket for evening - even if only a windbreaker/golf jacket sort of thing.

Hey JerseySue, wear what you would wear in the States. I would like for you to take note and report back.
You will see one of every color shoe known to man, jeans, more jeans, and most jeans, shorts, capris, t-shirts, sweatshirts, polo shirts, even in September. You won't see many sports coats unless it's the over 75 or the Neiman Marcus crowd.
Dress for comfort, and if your comfortable walking shoes are white tennis shoes, wear them. No one will give a hoot but you.

Every 6 months we have a Get To Gether of Fodorites in the NJ/NY area at a BYOB restaurant in Weehawkin. It's a nice luncheon and everyone shares their recent travel escapades and drink wine and eat some great food. I will be announcing something later this month on this and the US Forum. Hope you will join us.

Well, even if you do stand out as an American tourist, do us proud!! I don't mind looking like the tourist I am but I want to look my best, whatever that is, ha.
Besides the locals all know who actually lives on the island so they will know you are a tourist but that is how they make a living, from tourists!! 90% of the people you will see will be tourists!
